Why is vitamin B6 important?

Vitamin B6 is the most needed B vitamin.

When consuming large amounts of protein (e.g., protein diets), the need for B6 is increased. Patients suffering from arthritis and treated with penicillamine should take additional amounts of B6. Symptoms of deficiency are manifested on the skin: seborrhea especially around the eyes, nose and mouth - seborrheic dermatitis. Acute B6 deficiency may occur while taking some medications (isoniazid, cycloserine). The best natural source: acidophilic milk, brewer's yeast, wheat bran and sprouts, melons, eggs, kale, mackerel, chicken. It is an integral part of all living organisms. If taken in the form of dietary supplements, its amount must be kept in proportion to other B-complex vitamins.
