Why do some medications react to the sun?

Some medications can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Such reactions can lead first to reddening of the skin and then to the formation of sun spots.

Photosensitivity reactions - hypersensitivity of the skin to sunlight - can be caused by some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, some antipsychotics, some antibiotics, some contraceptives. Such possible reactions are always highlighted in the instructions for use of the drug. Therefore, it is important to read the instructions when using the drug: indications, contraindications, side effects.
