Cellulite is not an ordinary accumulated subcutaneous fat. Cellulite is a gelatinous accumulation made up of fat, water and waste products that have accumulated in swollen, immobile pockets just below the skin. They act like a sponge that can absorb a large amount of water.
Connective tissue is a type of supporting tissue made up of cells and connective fibers embedded in a basic gelatinous substance permeated with tissue fluid. Edema (edema, Greek οϊδημα = swelling) is the accumulation of excess interstitial fluid by more than 10 percent of normal. The immediate cause of edema is an increased transfer of water and electrolytes from the plasma to the intercellular space and their reduced return to the bloodstream.
