Proper Winter Skincare

The skin needs more oil and moisture when the weather is cold

04.04.2020

The biggest challenge when it comes to skincare in winter is how to reduce temperature shocks which the skin (or at least its uncovered parts) endures every day. What brings about these temperature shocks to the skin in winter? Cold winter temperatures and wind on the one hand, and warm, heated indoor air on the other. Maybe you really enjoy taking a walk in the fresh air and (quickly) returning to a warm, heated room, but this is not good news for your skin. These changes in temperature make the skin dry, chapped, dehydrated, and red.

Because gloves and a scarf are clearly not enough, you may be wondering what to do. Just as you will adapt your driving style in winter, replace your summer tyres with winter ones, take care of your plants, change your clothes and shoes, and so on, it is also necessary to adapt your skincare routine to winter conditions.
In the winter, cells produce less sebum and the natural oiliness of the skin is reduced. That is why the skin needs more oil and moisture when the weather is cold. Here are some tips to achieve that by tackling the problem from different angles with everything at your disposal.

Creams – you cannot go wrong by choosing one of NiKEL’s hydrating creams with BIO shea butter and the finest natural oils that nourish the skin, restore the skin barrier, replenish and prevent the loss of moisture, and soothe uncomfortable skin tightness. We recommend our Nourishing Cream with Rose, Nikelnutris intensive nourishing cream or Rich Hydrating Cream with Immortelle.

Makeup base – NiKEL Evening Primrose Oil is great for sensitive, dehydrated skin as well as for redness and flaking. Its ingredients make it suitable for both dry and oily skin. Gently apply a few drops of this concentrate to the face and neck. Then apply your cream. Your skin will start to glow and become velvety soft and moisturised with just a few drops of this concentrate. It has an anti-inflammatory and healing effect, soothes sensitive skin prone to redness, regenerates the skin barrier, retains and prevents the loss of moisture and has an anti-wrinkle effect.

Masks – it would be best to apply them at least once a week.

UV protection – the winter sun has its charms, but it can also be dangerous. Whether you are going for a walk or skiing, apply our NiKEL Alpine Rose Tonic. Tip: Before using your favourite skincare product, apply NiKEL Alpine Rose Tonic to your face, neck, décolletage and area around the eyes. It will prevent the skin from drying out and being damaged as well as from factors contributing to premature aging: UV rays and pollution.
