Eye healing plants

A certain number of eye problems can be mitigated, and sometimes completely eliminated, by plants.

Eyebright or euphrasia (Euphrasia officinalis) – name of a plant motivated by its properties – in French "casse-lunettes" (spectacle breaker), in Italian "luminella" (eye light), in German "Augentrost" (eye comforter). It grows all over the world and has a reputation as a specific medicine for certain eye problems such as eye inflammation (conjunctivitis) and tired and tearful eyes. Prepare eyebright as an infusion: Pour 1 dl of boiled water over 1 spoonful of the herb. Let it stand covered for 1 or 2 minutes at the most. Strain through sterile gauze. Use the infusion to rinse the eyes three to four times daily and obligatorily in the morning and evening or apply as an eye compress. Always prepare a fresh infusion. Lime-tree flower tea will help against dark eye circles. Stretch comfortably and apply warm (but not too hot) compresses for fifteen minutes. Nikel eye cream with chestnut, which contains herbs that eliminate excessive fluid around the eyes and soften eye circle contours, will be even better. Itching and "granular appearance" of eyelids are signs of vitamin B2 deficiency. Nutritionists recommend B complex rich foods (brewer's yeast, nuts, eggs, fish) to prevent or cure this condition. For healthy eyes, eat a lot of parsley, rich in vitamins A and C, which also contains considerable quantities of vitamin B, calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese and potassium. Among supplements, whortleberry extract, natural beta carotene, luteine, B complex vitamins and vitamin C are recommended.
